Renton
Lodge #29 was chartered June 5th, 1879 at Port Blakely, a lumbering and
sawmill town in Kitsap County. Johnston Blakely was a hero of the War
of 1812 and the town was named after Blakely Harbor, which had named
earlier for him. The Lodge was named for Captain William Renton, who
established Port Blakely Mill. He was not a Mason, but his nephew, John
A Campbell, was a Chartered Member and the second Master of the Lodge.
In 1979 the population of Bainbridge Island had tripled, but the Lodge
membership has gone down . As a "bedroom community" for Seattle,
many Masons maintain membership in Seattle Lodges.
