Lodge of Knowledge to
Reveal "Hidden Mysteries" of Freemasonry in
Decline and Fall of
Roman Empire?!
By WB John Majors
"Freemasonry in Brother Edward Gibbon's The Decline and Fall
of the Roman Empire," is the topic of
our next Lodge of Knowledge slated Thursday,
January 21, from
7-8 p.m. in the fellowship hall.
Published
in 1776 (volume one of six), the 3,000 page
work is considered a classic historical and literary
masterpiece. In fact, many of Winston
Churchill's
majestic phrases were inspired by Gibbon. Interestingly, one of
Gibbon's best friends was Adam Smith, whose own economic classic, The Wealth of Nations,
was
also published
in 1776.
In
our review we will focus upon a remarkable
section of the book actually dealing with the "hidden myster-
ies" of Freemasonry ... minus, of course, any
Masonic signs,
grips, words, or modes of recognition. Since the
sub-
ject matter is exceeedingly "heavy," I'll be lacing it with the usual
theatrical antics to maintain audience interest.
Future
Lodge of Knowledge topics will include: (1) Freemasonry in Will &
Ariel
Durant's monumental 11-
volume The
Story of Civilization; and (2) The
Secret History of
Freemasonry: Its Origins and
Connection to the
Knights Templar (as cribbed from Paul
Naudon's
interesting book by the same title).
Sequim's Lodge of Knowledge
meets from 7-8
p.m. every third Thursday
each month, excepting July, Au-
gust, November and December. All Masons, family members, and friends are welcome
at these Masonic forums.
Refreshments
&
educational
materials are provided. Of the 40 Brethren,
ladies &
friends
who attended last year's
Lodge of Knowledge, 30 received certificates of recognition for
attending three
or more meetings.
